PageMaker to PDF
A PageMaker .pmd file straight to a Unicode PDF that looks like the publication. No PageMaker needed and no OCR — a .pmd stores its story as the bytes the operator typed, and its pages, boxes and lines as PageMaker set them.
Leave it on detect if you are not sure. The ones marked “not yet” will tell you so rather than converting badly.
Kept: Each page as the publication lays it out: its text boxes and columns, PageMaker’s own line breaks and tab positions, font sizes, bold, italic and underline, alignment, the rules, boxes and the images in their places, and the page size.
Not kept: Master-page items such as running heads and page numbers, colour, rotation and text wraps. The text is set in a Unicode font, so a line is compressed slightly where that font sets wider than the original; text that ran past its page or that no text box held is set on the pages that follow.
